A Series of Wee Scotland Paintings

Brough of Birsay Shadows 6x8 oil

As you may recall, I partly funded my June Scotland trip by pre-selling a series of 6x8 oil paintings.  I am happy to announce that the series is now complete!  I really enjoyed painting these, as it put me back in the mood to start thinking about planning another trip.

You'd think it'd be hard to get into a Scottish mood, now that I'm back in New Mexico.  But the memory is quite fresh, and to help me, I had my journal of gouache sketches and my written journal, not to mention thousands of photo references. Going over all this material was a real pleasure.

By the way, these were all painted with a small painting knife and Gamblin Artists Color oils.  After choosing the scene and penciling it in with a #2 pencil on Gessobord, I did block in the painting with a brush, but once the color was laid in, I used a knife to apply the next layers and to finish.

I'm now offering these paintings to my patrons who supported me on the trip.  Once they are done selecting, if I have any left over, I'll make them available to others who might be interested.  If so, I'll make the announcement here.

Here are the rest of the paintings (one is at the top of this post):
