Workshops

Small affordable painting workshops en plein air
in beautiful, accessible locations

Summer/Fall Workshops
Michael  reserves summer and fall on Campobello Island to offer en plein air workshops. Both oil and pastel are welcome, and every level of student, from beginner to advanced, will benefit from the workshop.  The 2013 season starts July 2 and runs through mid-September.  You can sign up now at www.PaintCampobello.com

Michael will demonstrate materials and methods for painting en plein air with plenty of instruction at the student's easel. Painting locations may include Lubec's historic waterfront, the Roosevelt Cottage and grounds, and scenic working harbors such as Head Harbour.

Sessions, which consist of four-day (Tuesday-Friday) half-day sessions will give painters plenty of time to explore the island and the Downeast Maine region on their own. (Sessions are run 9-1 Atlantic Time.) While visiting, you can go on a whale watch...take a hike along Herring Cove's beautiful cobble beach in Herring Cove Provincial Park...go bike riding on one of the Roosevelt Campobello International Park's many gravel roads...or visit two of the most scenic lighthouses, the West Quoddy Light and the Head Harbour Light.

Campobello Island is in New Brunswick, Canada. It's just over the bridge from Lubec, Maine, and only two hours from Bar Harbor or the Bangor International Airport. Lodging and dining are plentiful on Campobello Island and nearby Lubec, Maine.

Even though each session is a complete course, feel free to take several weeks to hone your skills! There is no minimum number of students for the class, but the maximum for Campobello Island is typically FOUR students.  A few advanced level/mentoring weeks are also scheduled.  Price - $300.  For many more details, visit www.PaintCampobello.com.

Winter/Spring Workshops
Join Michael for plein air workshops in Sedona, Arizona, from late October into mid-April.  You'll be painting in beautiful "red rock country" with many hiking trails and vistas.  You can sign up now at www.PaintSedona.com.

Three types of workshops are offered:
  • Traditional workshop for all levels
  • Mentoring workshops for advanced students with an optional advanced design/color curriculum
  • Painting retreats for advanced students
Michael will work in oil or pastel, but all media are accepted.  Students should have experience with their chosen medium and with painting outdoors. Most workshops are for advanced students, but a few entry-level weeks are scheduled as well.

Price of the workshop - $300, and has a similar schedule to the Paint Campobello program.  Workshops run Tuesday-Friday.  We suggest you come a few days early and explore the area to get familiar with the terrain.

Workshops are limited typically to FOUR students only, so don't hesitate to sign up!  Visit www.PaintSedona.com for full details.

Other Workshops
In addition to teaching workshops on Campobello Island and in Sedona, Michael teaches for a number of art groups and associations throughout the year.  To see a master schedule of his workshops, visit the workshop page of his website.
